GIVE Me Love is Ringo Starr’s 19th studio album, an amazing milestone for a man whose greatest artistic accomplishment in The Beatles was writing Octopus’s Garden. Fair to say Richard Starkey’s solo career exceeded expectations.
The expectations for Give Me Love were fairly low and the 77-year-old does nothing to surprise. The album is full of middle-of-the-road rockers like the cringe-worthy We’re On The Road Again and Electricity before Starr dabbles into country-rock, a more comfortable fit for his limited vocal range.
Starr has called in a little help from his friends in Paul McCartney, Peter Frampton, Richard Marx, Dave Stewart and Gen Ballard to perform or co-write. Nobody is pushing themselves creatively, but they’re having fun.
