If last week’s TiNA festival wasn’t enough art for Newcastle, take heart, there’s more creativity happening this Tuesday at The Clarendon Hotel.

Heart Open (also known as #HerArtOpen) is a bi-monthly female-focused open mic night in Newcastle that was started by writers Chloe Warren and Alex Morris. The event features several talented women in the Hunter. Warren and Morris host the event and interview the featured artists. Between featured performances, members of the audience are welcome to take the mic. Everyone is encouraged sign up for the (limited) open mic slots.

Heart Open debuted at the Grain Store in August and featured (among others) comedy by writer Elena Terol, hula hoop dancing by Hannah Indigo and music by Eddie Tolhurst -- who’s since been in Myanmar for an international singing competition.

This Tuesday will be the second round of Heart Open and features musician Deanna Rose, visual artist Jess Kellar, poet Laura Kebby and dancer Jacinta Rose. Doors open at 6 pm for a 7 pm start at the Clarendon, and a $5 donation is encouraged.

Home-made colourful zines with stories about the artists will also be available for a gold coin donation, and vintage clothing will be on sale by fashion designer Chinchen Street.

Heart Open features women and non-binary artists, but everyone is welcome to sign up for the open mic. Learn more by searching for “Heart Open” on Facebook.
