Avondale’s Grace Kim continued her surge towards a Jack Newton International Junior Classic title with a third straight sub-par performance at Cypress Lakes on Thursday.
The 16-year-old will take a commanding 11-shot lead into Friday’s fourth and final round of the girls championship after recording 68, 67 and 70 on the opening few days of competition.
She is 11-under the card with a total of 14 birdies.
Her nearest rivals are Queensland’s Isabelle Taylor, Sydney’s Stephanie Kyriacou and New Zealand’s Juliana Hung at even par.
In the boys championship, taking place concurrently at the same venue and also for players 18 and under, Queensland’s Louis Dobbelaar has a five-stroke advantage at seven-under with 18 holes remaining after firing three-under on Thursday.
Hunter trio Jye Picken (+4), Corey Lamb (+6) and Luke Ferrier (+8) are inside the top 20.
And with the sub-junior ranks (14 years and under) Sophie Yip (-8) of Concord and Jordan Jung (-6) of Western Australia are comfortably in control of their respective competitions at Cessnock Golf Club.
