The Steel Street pedestrian crossing over the old heavy rail line has closed until early next year.

The closure is part of the Revitalising Newcastle program, which involves work on the former heavy rail corridor between Wickham and Worth Place.

Pedestrians will still be able to cross the corridor at Stewart Avenue and Kuwumi Place while the Steel Street crossing is closed.

It comes as the final touches are being put on the Newcastle Interchange ahead of its opening this weekend.
