Lake Macquarie City Council has shown Supercar-like speed in jumping into the debate over high hotel prices in Newcastle.
The same day the Herald reported that Supercars officials were warning hotels about price gouging during the race weekend, Lake Macquarie announced it had plenty of room at its council-run holiday parks at Belmont, Swansea, Blacksmiths and Wangi Wangi.
All were near public transport and none were charging “race-weekend premiums”.
“Lake Mac Holiday Parks are only a short drive from Newcastle. You can enjoy our beautiful pristine beaches and lake views in the morning, and be trackside for the race by lunchtime,” Mayor Kay Fraser said.
She said the parks had prices ranging from $32 a night for a camp site to $225 a night for a villa during the Newcastle 500 from November 24 to 26.
