Golf: Rick Kulacz, Aaron Wilkin share spoils at 2017 Waratah Pro-Am

Interstate duo Rick Kulacz and Aaron Wilkin have pipped Hunter product Nathan Green to be crowned joint champions at Thursday’s Waratah Pro-Am.

The West Australian and Queenslander both finished six-under 65, one ahead of Toronto’s Green and fellow runner-up Tasmanian Simon Hawkes (66).

Perth-based 32-year-old Kulacz, the 2006 NSW Open winner who contested the 2011 British Open, landed two birdies in his last three holes to level proceedings at the Argenton course.

Wilkin, a 24-year-old on the Australasian PGA tour who made a course-record 10-under 62 in the 2015 NSW Open at Stonecutters Ridge, had started strongly with four birdies in his opening nine holes.

There were no extra holes used to split the $11,000 purse.

The Hunter contingent also included Callan O’Reilly and Aaron Townsend tied for fifth at four-under (67) while Nick Flanagan, Jake Higginbottom and Leigh McKechnie were further back in a share of 16th at one-under (70).

The pro-am series continues at Woy Woy’s Everglades Country Club on Friday.
