Clare Bowditch leaves ABC Radio to focus on music and writing

Clare Bowditch will leave ABC Radio Melbourne at the end of this month to concentrate on her music career and her first book, the ABC announced on Thursday.

The ARIA winner and Logie Award nominee has hosted the Afternoons program from 1pm to 3pm on ABC Radio Melbourne since January 2016.

"I've loved my time on the program and at the ABC, with an amazing radio station team and a brilliant roll-call of program contributors. Most of all though, it's been the audiences that joined me day after day to create a show that we hope connected people to the community we live in," she said.

A fixture of Australia's creative scene, Bowditch plans to release her eighth studio album and her first book in 2018.

"Both projects ??? have been waiting in the wings for quite a while. It's time I give them my full attention in a way that just hasn't been possible while hosting a daily radio show," she said.

Afternoons held a 6.7 per cent share of Melbourne listeners in the last survey, held in August, up from 6.4 per cent in June.

A replacement has yet to be announced.
