Mayfield KFC robbed at knife-point in second Newcastle armed hold-up in two days

A SHOELESS thief has robbed the Mayfield KFC at knife-point.

Newcastle City detectives were on the hunt for an armed robber for the second time in two days, with the United service station on Watkins Street in Merewether robbed by two men who allegedly brandished a metal pole on Monday.

Police said a man entered the Maitland Road fast food restaurant shortly before midnight on Tuesday and approached the counter with a knife.

The man, who was shoeless at the time, demanded money.

Staff complied and the man fled with a small amount of cash.

He was described as being Caucasian in appearance with light brown hair. He was wearing a red shirt and grey track pants at the time of the robbery.

Police do not believe the Merewether and Mayfield robberies to be linked at this stage.

Staff in both robberies were not injured.

Anyone with information was urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
