Newcastle Police seize sawn-off shotgun, drugs and cash at Shortland

Three people were arrested and a sawn-off shotgun seized when a sedan was stopped near Newcastle on Monday.

Police from Newcastle City Local Area Command stopped the car in Marion Street, Shortland, about 3.10am and arrested a man and two women.

A shortened firearm, amphetamines and cash were seized when the car and occupants were searched. All three were then taken to Newcastle Police Station.

A 46-year-old man, from Maryland, was charged with possession of a shortened firearm. He was refused bail to appear in Newcastle Local Court on Monday.

A 31-year-old woman, from Kotara, was charged with drug and traffic offences. She was granted conditional bail to appear in Newcastle Local Court on Thursday November 30.

A 21-year-old woman from Bar Beach was released pending further inquiries.
