Auction Action: Bidding wars over Newcastle properties

In what Newcastle auctioneer Gavan Reynolds of Reynolds Auctions described as “the busiest auction day of the year”, plenty of homes sold under the hammer on November 11.

There were numerous bidding wars seen, including one for a four-bedroom home on 515 square metres at 15 Hebburn St, Hamilton East, whichwas marketed through First National’s Tom Lemke and sold for $1.321 million after an opening bid of $1 million.

Simon Wall marketed 14 Cedar Crescent, Merewether Heights, where an opening bid of $810,000 quickly rose to the final sale price of $971,000. There were seven registered bidders and the eventual purchasers were a young family from Sydney.

There were six registered bidders for 104 Crescent Road, Waratah, a three-bedroom home on 645 square metres marketed through Dotcom Property Sales which sold under the hammer for $866,000. 

A three-bedroom home at 10 Penman Street, New Lambton has several registered bidders and sold for $655,000.

Dalton Partners’ director and auctioneer Anthony Merlo described it as “Super Saturday” and said Sydney’s poor auction clearance rates were clearly not affecting the Newcastle market.

He sold Andrew McGavin’s Hamilton South listing at 175 Parkway Ave, a four-bedroom home on 791 square metres which was marketed with a price guide of $1.69 million, for $1.88 million and David Phelan’s Broadmeadow listing at 7 Melville Road for $650,000, $70,000 over its reserve after “ spirited bidding”.

First National sold 42 Buchanan Street, Merewether under the hammer for $1.85 million.

McGrath Estate Agent’s Todd Mason sold a three-bedroom home on 947 square metres at 39 Dalpura Lane, Kotara South for $750,000.

A six-bedroom residence in sought-after Rowan Crescent, Merewether is expected to have plenty of interest when PRDnationwide hold an auction night at Watt Street Commercial Centre on November 22 from 6pm.

The home at No.78 overlooks Gibbs Brothers Oval and will be auctioned with a price guide of $2.35 million to $2.55 million.

There will be plenty of auction action on November 18, starting with a two-bedroom Stockton home at 21 Maitland Street being marketed by Dowling Wallsend. The auction is on site at 9am with a price guide of $700,000 to $750,000.

Anthony Merlo will auction 158 Chatham Street, Broadmeadow at 10.30am with a price guide of $580,000.

Walkom’s Kate Rundle will take a two-bedroom townhouse at 15 Wrightson Avenue, Bar Beach to auction at 11.15am with a price guide of $750,000.
