Police have seized a sawn-off rifle and knives after searching a vehicle on Wednesday morning.
About 1.15am police stopped a Ford Falcon sedan on Hunter Street, Newcastle West.
As officers approached the vehicle, they noticed three people inside moving about. After speaking with the occupants, officers searched the vehicle.
Police seized a sawn-off rifle, a hunting knife, and two pocket knives.
A 21-year-old woman, and two men, aged 27 and 23, were arrested and taken to Newcastle Police Station.
The older man was charged with possessing a shortened firearm, conveying a prohibited firearm, and having custody of a knife in a public place.
He has been refused bail and will be appearing before Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday.
The other two were released from custody pending further inquiries.
