All the V8 action and photos as Jamie Whincup is crowned at the Newcastle 500 Supercars

More than 190,000 people attended the first Newcastle Supercars street race from November 24 to 26.

The circuit, a 2.6 kilometres long track which features amazing views of the city, Nobbys Beach and Shortland Esplanade, really put drivers to the test.

Jamie Whincup was named champion, but only after Scott McLaughlin was penalised in the final laps for an incident with Craig Lowndes.

The real action was trackside where hordes of fans watched their favourite drivers fight it our for the top spot. Fairfax journalists were roaming the Coastes Hire Newcastle 500 precinct all weekend to bring you live updates and an inside look at the atmosphere from the track.
