Newcastle 500: police responding to reports eggs thrown at cars on Parnell Place

EDITOR’S NOTE: Police later said they found no evidence of being thrown during the Newcastle Supercars event.

POLICE have been called in to the residents-only section of the Newcastle 500 circuit after reports eggs were thrown at race cars.

Officials on the ground in the Parnell Place area, near turn nine, alerted race organisers shortly after noon.

Organisers confirmed police were responding to the incident.

It is understood the eggs were thrown in the direction of cars in the V8 Utes championship.

Police attended a unit on Parnell Place about 12.30pm.

The clash between residents and race organisers has been a long-running saga since the announcement of the Newcastle 500.
