Retail manager Brianne Lowe said the team at Mega Save Chemist Charlestown were humbled and proud to be named Pharmacy of the Year for the second year running and then Business of the Year 2017 at the Hunter Local Business Awards.
The family-run operation is co-owned by pharmacists Brady Haskell and Luca Boffo and the honours were bestowed at a gala presentation at Belmont 16s last Wednesday night.
Winners of each category became candidates for Overall Business of the Year, but Brianne said the team hadn’t given much thought to taking out the big one.
“We had no idea we would be in contention as there were so many other outstanding businesses there on the night also winning their categories.” Looking back, Brianne said the wins were reward for all the hard work over the past 12 months.
“We have a great little team here at Charlestown and we are committed to being the primary health care destination in Charlestown.
”Our girls do their best to provide remarkable customer service to all customers so winning this award which is judged 70 per cent on mystery shopping is pretty outstanding. These awards really help with our staff motivation and morale”
The Hunter Business Awards provide local businesses with benchmarks that come with tangible benefits.
“We also use the awards to market our store,” Brianne said.
“Saying we were voted best Chemist in the Hunter two years in a row grabs people’s attention and in turn they come and give us a go.”
Brady Haskell paid tribute to Steve Loe and the team at Precedent Productions who put on the awards each year.
“The response we had within our business from winning last year’s local and national award has been phenomenal,” Brady said.
Brianne reserved special praise for her hard-working team.
“We are strong believers in ‘Our Brand is Our Team’ and we back that up with staff support, training, incentives and making sure each team member knows the important rule they play in making our business great.
“They turn up and put in 100 per cent every day and now they have this amazing award to show for it.”
