A NELSON Bay mother and father have pleaded guilty to leaving their kids home alone after a four-year-old girl was found walking along a busy road by herself in the middle of the night.
The parents, who cannot be named because it would identify their two young children, appeared in Raymond Terrace Local Court where they pleaded guilty to two counts of abandon or expose child under seven and cause danger or serious injury. The mother also pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of a prohibited drug.
The pair will appear in Raymond Terrace Local Court for sentence in February. Police say they were called to Government Road at Nelson Bay about 1.45am on October 15 after a passing motorist found a young girl walking along the road by herself.
The child told police where she lived and officers searched the unit, finding another child asleep in a cot.
Police contacted the children’s parents, who returned home. Police searched the mother’s handbag and found ice. The children were removed from their parents care, police said.
