NEWCASTLE Uber trips will cost more under a plan to help drivers better cover their costs.
The ride-sharing app’s NSW general manager will inform drivers about the change, which covers the Hunter and other parts of NSW except Sydney.
Queensland and Victoria will also receive the change in rates.
Base fares will rise from $2 to $2.50, while the per kilometre rate rises 15 cents to $1.25. The per minute fare increases from 30 to 38 cents.
Uber’s NSW general manager Natalie Malligan told drivers in a statement that the fare increases mean “you’ll earn more on every UberX trip in Newcastle”.
“This change is a direct result of your feedback,” she said in an email that will be sent to drivers. “You’ve shared how challenging it can be out there on the road.
“With this in mind, we’re making changes to better reflect the time and effort involved in getting riders where they need to go.”
The fare change follows several new features giving Uber drivers greater control. including the power to reject up to three trips in a row.
Wait fees have also been added to the app, charging riders per minute for leaving their ride waiting after two minutes.
Uber’s other ride types will also have similar price rises.
