THEY’VE done it. Psych heavyweights King Gizzard & The Wizard Lizard have delivered on their bold declaration to release five albums in 2017 by a mere two days.
The triumphant finale is Gumboot Soup, which as its name suggests, is a tasty combination of the divergent paths its four predecessors journeyed.
There’s whimsical psych pop (Beginner’s Luck, Superposition), dark prog rock (All Is Know, Muddy Water) and doom pop in the highlight The Great Chain Of Being.
Gumboot Soup lacks the cohesiveness of Flying Microtonal Banana or Polygondwanaland, but the focus on individual songs over a specific sound makes the record more approachable.
The question is can King Gizzard continue this creative burst in 2018?
