Lake Macquarie City Council’s four holiday parks have posted an average 90 per cent occupancy rate for the recent Christmas and new year period – a three per cent increase on the previous year.

The council operates holiday parks at Swansea, Blacksmiths, Belmont and Wangi Wangi. Holiday parks coordinator Garry Ellem said the Swansea site recorded 89 per cent occupancy – up from 86 per cent in 2016 – which was the greatest improvement of the four facilities.

“Over the past eight years, we have completed an extensive capital works program at each of the parks, which included the upgrade and refurbishment of park offices and entries, cabin accommodation, amenities blocks and roads, and the installation of new recreational facilities such as camp kitchens, recreation rooms and resort-style swimming pools,” he said.

The amenities block at the Swansea facility will be upgraded this year and a refurbishment of the cabins at each of the parks will take place.
