Heed warning on boating laws

We can all learn from an incident involving a Riviera that crashed ashore at Green Point on Lake Macquarie during the Christmas break, with police issuing a state-wide alcohol alert for boat owners.

The driver apparently refused a breath analysis but was granted bail to appear at Belmont Local Court earlier this week.

Rules stipulate that the operator of a vessel includes anyone steering or exercising control over a vessel’s course, the observer in a ski boat or jetski, a person being towed by a vessel, or a person supervising the operator of a vessel under 16 years of age.
