Missing swimmer found dead in NSW

A 24-year-old man has been found dead after disappearing while swimming on the NSW south coast.

Police divers found the man's body at 10.30am (AEDT) on Saturday after resuming Friday's search involving police, fire brigades, ambulance, the Careflight helicopter, Rural Fire Service and surf lifesavers.

Witnesses told police the 24-year-old, from Mittagong in the state's southern highlands, was among a group of friends that had travelled to the Killalea State Recreational Park, south of Bass Point, to swim about 5pm (AEDT).

The 24-year-old was attempting to swim to a rock ledge when he was struck by a large swell and disappeared.

The location is a popular rock-fishing location used by swimmers to jump about eight metres off a rock face into the water.
