The origin of Futsal can be traced back to Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1930 when Juan Carlos Ceriani devised a five-a-side version of soccer for youth competition.

The game is played on basketball-sized courts, both indoors and out without the use of sidewalls.

The term FUTSAL is the international term used for the game. Northern NSW Futsal Association Inc, continues to grow in numbers to be one of Australia’s major Futsal areas.

Affiliated to A.F.A (Australian Futsal Association) the biggest Futsal ONLY association in Australia and part of the I.F.A.( International Futsal Association) with over 66 members world/wide.

The region spanning from the Central Coast to Taree and including the Hunter Valley has 10 clubs that provide competitions for all interested, from under 5 years of age to adults, for both boys and girls.  

NNSW Futsal provide representative and training opportunities for their members. As well NNSW Futsal provide a very popular school competitions in 4 regions over the winter months, so as to introduce Futsal to Primary School and High Schools

For the majority of the players Futsal enables them to become better footballers while having fun and playing this exiting game. Futsal provides everyone with plenty of fun and variety, no matter what your qualifications and whether you play outdoor football or not. 

For the elite players there are various programs with pathways to possible Australian Tours and Australian representation.

In fact two Novocastrians, Daniel Nicol, and Sophie Obrien have made the Australian Youth team to represent Australia in May, at the World Cup for Youth Women, in Spain.

Futsal is the only indoor game sanctioned by FIFA ,and IFA. If skills development is important, Futsal is recognised as the best form of indoor soccer.

But that’s not the only reason, it provides better skills development promoting quality touches and is safer than walled soccer and generally less expensive.
