Merewether’s Mary Ellen Hotel has been listed for sale, less than 18 months after it was purchased off market.

The popular Railway Street venue, well-known for its “schnitties” and vast array of craft beers, was listed for sale on Monday and will be sold through an expressions of interest campaign.

It is being marketed by CBRE Hotels in conjunction with Moore & Moore Real Estate and agent Deane Moore said they had been “inundated” with enquiries, “predominantly from Sydney”.

“It is a good business and a really good asset to own,” Mr Moore said.

“It’s going to be a sought-after pub, based on the fact it’s Merewether.

“It’s a good income stream from various departments, from food and beverage to the bottle shop.

“It has a big frontage to Glebe Road and exposure. Given the tight yield of Newcastle, it’s still going to show a good yield for someone.”

It is the first time the hotel has been listed on market for 13 years.

A price guide has not been set.
