POLICE are investigating a two-car crash that closed part of Industrial Drive in Mayfield.

Emergency services were called to the scene just before 2.30pm on Saturday February 10 after reports two vehicles had crashed.

Officers from Newcastle City Local Area Command found a Hyundai Accent and a Nissan Navara had allegedly collided, before the Hyundai left the roadway and hit a power pole.

Police said the Hyundai driver, a man aged 19, and a male passenger, 26, were trapped.

They were released and taken to John Hunter Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Chief Inspector Gerard Lawson said the driver had a significant leg fracture that required surgery and the passenger had a grievous facial injury that required surgery.

The Nissan driver, a man aged 25, and his two male passengers were not injured.
