Newcastle hooker Mitch Black led a second half onslaught as the Knights recorded back-to-back victories to start the season with a 42-16 win over Balmain in their S.G. Ball Under 18’s clash at Leichhardt Oval on Saturday.
Black scored a brilliant individual try and was in everything as his side stormed home over the top of the Tigers.
They led 18-16 at halftime but piled on 24 unanswered points after the break with Black, halfback Phoenix Crossland and prop Tom Baker the standouts.
“We knew they would come at us hard at home and we were a bit rattled in the first half,”Dureau said.
“At halftime, I told the boys they needed to go back to taking them on around the ruck and once we started doing that, we had plenty of success.
“Not letting any more points in was also an indication of the boys stepping things up.”
Rory Kostjasyn’s Under 16’s side did it much tougher but also came away with a second straight win in their Harold Matthews clash against the Tigers.
The scoreline see-sawed during the game with the Knights up by two points late in the contest before fullback Logan Radzievic scored to secure a 26-18 win.
