A man has been charged with 45 offences following a crime spree across Lake Macquarie and Newcastle.
On Thursday police attached to the Lake Macquarie and Newcastle Target Action Groups investigated information concerning a man wanted for the alleged theft of cars, break and enters, frauds and traffic offences.
During these inquiries, about 4.30am, police attended the Pacific Highway, Belmont following reports of a break and enter at a newsagency. A Toyota Rav4 was seen to leave the scene.
Police sighted a vehicle matching the description in Buttaba Avenue. As they approached the car it sped away and allegedly collided with a police vehicle and another parked car.
Police located the vehicle a short time later in nearby Golding Avenue, Belmont North. During a search of the area a man was found and after a short foot pursuit, was arrested at the scene.
The 28-year-old man was taken to Belmont Police Station where he was charged with 45 offences including dishonestly obtain property by deception, drive conveyance without consent of owner, police pursuit-not stop-drive dangerous, break, enter and steal, drug offences, resist police and other traffic offences.
He was refused bail and is expected to appear in Newcastle Local Court on Friday.
Investigations are continuing.
