OFF THE PERCH Melbourne outfit Perch Creek have grown up on their upcoming self-titled album. The five-piece were formerly known as The Perch Family Jug Band, but they’ve shifted away from their traditional old-country sound to a more modern indie-roots style. Catch Perch Creek at Lizotte’s on June 7.
NEW ALBUM We told you on Thursday that William Crighton was gearing up to record a live album at Maitland’s Grand Junction Hotel on March 27. Well, we’re hearing there’s more new material coming soon from the Bellbird troubadour. Expect the follow-up to Crighton’s haunting self-titled debut album to drop in April.
GIRLS ROCK It’s rare that women outnumber men on a punk line-up, but this will happen when three generations of Newcastle women play at the Lass O’Gowrie Hotel’s “Some Ol' Bullshit” on March 31. Headlining is ‘90s band Loose and the Horny Chicks. The bill also includes fellow ‘90s band Spam, Bitchcraft and contemporary act Boudicca.
HALLELUJAH The world lost one of its greatest songwriters in November 2016 with the death of Leonard Cohen. Fortunately Cohen’s music lives on through entertainer Stewart D’Arrietta. Fresh from shows at the Sydney Opera House and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, D’Arrietta’s My Leonard Cohen show comes to Lizotte’s on May 19.
ANOTHER PIECE Anyone lucky enough to witness My Friend The Chocolate Cake at Lizotte’s last year were swept away by the charisma of David Bridie and his chamber pop outfit. The good news is “Cake” are headed back to the Lambton theatre on July 20 for their Winter Revival tour.
