Teenager charged after crashing allegedly stolen car into wall at Windale

A TEENAGE girl has been charged after an allegedly stolen car fled police before mounting a gutter and crashing into a wall at Windale.

It is alleged a Ford Mondeo was stolen from a Mount Hutton home about 5.30pm on Tuesday.

Police said shortly before 1.30am on Wednesday the car was spotted on the Newcastle Inner City Bypass at Windale.

It is alleged the driver accelerated away from police.

The car was again spotted on Lake Street about 20 minutes later before the car crashed into a gutter on South Street and hit a wall.

Police said two teens were seen attempting to flee the scene on foot.

A girl, 15, was arrested and taken to Belmont police station where she was charged with stealing a car, not stopping when directed, negligent driving and never licensed person driving a vehicle.

She was granted conditional bail and will appear at a children’s court on March 26.

Police were unable to locate a second teenager seen fleeing the crash.
