NEWCASTLE as you have never seen it before was on display  at Newcastle Museum on the weekend. 

More than 40 Lego engineers armed with thousands of tiny plastic bricks recreated many of the region’s most famous icons as part of the weekend’s Lego Newy competition. 

A miniature version of Wickham’s Lass O’Gowrie Hotel, built by Eddie O’Reilly and his son Logan took out the adult section. 

‘‘It was a great surprise to win because there were so many great entries,’’ Mr O’Reilly said. 

A metre-long model of the Pasha Bulker with a crashing wave, by Alexander Edwards, of Newcastle, took out the 13-to-18-year section, while a model of a Newcastle coal-loader by Oliver Anderson, of Cooks Hill, won the under-12 section. The event  celebrated 50 years of Lego. The winning entries will be on display  from November 20 to December 16.
