Toddler pulled from pool "breathing and alert"

A toddler, pulled from a backyard swimming pool at Medowie, is ‘‘conscious, breathing and alert’’, according to a Westpac rescue helicopter service spokesman.

Emergency services were rushing to Creighton Drive after the child was plucked from the water about 5.30pm.

Ambulance Service of NSW officers revived the child and he began breathing on his own, the Westpac spokesman said.

Westpac were on route to Creighton Drive when they were called off about 6.15pm.

The child is being taken by ambulance to John Hunter Hospital for observation.
