Girl falls from window at Forster

A FIVE-year-old girl suffered a fractured skull after falling through a first floor window screen and onto a concrete slab at Forster last night.

The girl was taken to Manning Base Hospital with bleeding on the brain and broken ribs, and later transferred to John Hunter Hospital.

She is in a stable condition.

Police have been told the girl was playing with her sister, 6, on a first floor windowsill in the North Street, Taree home.

She then apparently fell through the window screen and onto concrete about six metres below about 8.30pm.

The incident is being treated as an accident.

Police have appealed to parents to be vigilant, particularly when a child is near an open window or in high-rise accommodation.

Parents should ensure windows are secure and can only be completely opened by an adult, or have a securely fitted window guard.

Furniture should not be placed in front of windows, and they should be locked or closed if children are unsupervised.
