Nine rescued after boat capsizes

NINE people, including six children, have been rescued after a boat capsized on Central Coast yesterday.

The Sundeck Sea-Ray engine-powered boat was about 400 metres south of Lobster Beach at Box Head about 2pm yesterday, when it ran into difficulty.

Swamped by waves, the vessel eventually stalled, took on water and capsized. All those on board – three adults and six children aged seven to 12 – were thrown into the ocean.

They were rescued a short time later by a passing boat and two jet-ski riders, and taken to Lobster Beach.

A 48-year-old male passenger suffered breathing difficulties. The Westpac Rescue helicopter flew the man to Gosford Hospital, where he was reported to be in a stable condition.

No other passengers were injured.

Water Police from Brisbane Water and Broken Bay attended the scene. They breath-tested the owner/driver of the boat, which returned a reading of zero.
