Olympic medallist heads for Hunter Track Classic

OLYMPIC silver medallist Mitchell Watt has confirmed he will compete in the long jump at the Hunter Track Classic next month.

It will be Watt’s first appearance in the Hunter, bringing star status to the unique event to be held at Hunter Sports Centre on February 2.

The 24-year-old, who backed up his runner-up at the 2011 world championships with silver at the London Olympics, was sidelined by injury last summer and did not compete in the domestic season.

Newcastle is the first of four Australian meets – Hunter, Adelaide (February 16), Sydney (March 9) and Brisbane (March 23) – that he will compete at before heading to Europe in June.
