Pair to face court over armed robbery charges after Adamstown arrest

TWO men arrested by heavily armed police at an Adamstown motel last night over a string of armed robbery charges have been refused bail to appear in Lismore Court later this month.

Matthew Pinari, aged 24, of no fixed address, and Matthew Green, 34, of Mulli Mulli Road, Woodenbong, northern NSW, were taken into custody outside the Brunker Road business about 6.20pm in front of stunned bystanders.

They were later charged with five armed robberies, including hold-ups at a South Lismore hotel and a Casino credit union where a handgun was allegedly used.

Mr Pinari was also charged with possessing an unregistered firearm after a semi-automatic handgun was allegedly found in a car after the arrest.

Police said it was also understood the man had outstanding arrest warrants in Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia.

The pair did not apply for bail in Newcastle Local Court today and their matters were adjourned to February 19 at Lismore Local Court for mention.
