THE Samaritans have launched their 2014 Christmas appeal by decorating the Tree of Hope at their Hamilton retail store.
Donors will be asked to add to the tree with stars carrying messages of support which will be passed on to struggling families on Christmas Day.
Samaritans director Lynne Graham hopes to raise $100,000 over the Christmas period which will be spent in a number of ways to help locals in need.
“We have Christmas lunch in the park in Newcastle, Wyong and Singleton for 1300 people, many thousands of people will collect toys and we provide 11,000 people a year with emergency relief,’’ she said. “Every dollar stays in the local community”.
Cash donations can be made online by going to www.samaritans.org.au.
Early donors are already sending in their messages for the tree. One has written: “You have friends out there who care for you.”
