HUNTER restaurants, cafes and bars have once again cemented the region’s foodie credentials with wins at the Savour Australia Restaurant & Catering HOSTPLUS Awards for Excellence in Sydney on Monday night.

More than 380 restaurants, cafes and catering businesses were judged across 71 categories for the statewide awards which recognise establishments which provide exceptional service, demonstrate culinary excellence, and deliver great ambience and value for money.

Hunter region winners awards included Pokolbin’s Leogate Estate for Regional NSW Caterer of the Year and Merewether’s Table 1 Espresso which picked up gongs in the Consumer Vote and Social Media categories.

In the Hunter Valley, Pokolbin’s Circa 1876 and Broke’s Margan Restaurant & Winery took home awards. Newcastle winners included Nagisa Japanese Restaurant, Sweet Poison, Scratchley’s On The Wharf and Reserve Wine Bar, which took home the Small Bar gong for the second year running.

Reserve Wine Bar co-owner Patrick Haddock was delighted with the award.

“To win this award in consecutive years is testament to our team’s hard work,’’ he said. ‘‘We are thrilled that we have been recognised by Restaurant & Catering once again as a regional benchmark.”

Restaurant & Catering Australia chief executive John Hart applauded the winners’ passion, commitment and dedication. “They have been rigorously reviewed in one of the most objective awards systems, which looks at the entire dining experience, rather than a single food or service dimension,’’ he said.
