THE guests knew something was up at Benn and Abbie Allsop’s wedding; the groom had a history of surprises.
Sure enough, he interrupted the wedding dance to serenade his wife in a confetti-showered video that’s since been shared by Ashton Kutcher. The DJ and bridal party at the Rafferty’s, Cams Wharf reception for the Waratah couple were in on it.
‘‘I even set up a fake song list on my iPod,’’ says Benn.
‘‘I didn’t want to chance anything. Because Abbie had no idea it was hard to get the bridal party to rehearse it.’’
While Benn sang, the bridesmaids and groomsmen held up signs with the song lyrics – ‘‘thank you for loving me like you do/I know I could never live without you’’. Benn wrote them himself.
‘‘I feel like I’m in a movie,’’ said his slightly-overwhelmed bride.
Plenty could have gone wrong. Benn, who insists he’s a bad liar, didn’t risk a dress rehearsal with his co-conspirators but emailed a walk-through video of what he had in mind.
This was promptly deleted.
The YouTube video of Benn and Abbie’s wedding night has since won global fame after Ashton Kutcher shared it on his Facebook page.
Another clip, of Benn’s The Best Man Song at the nuptials of mate Lee Edwards, seems further proof he should be closely watched at weddings.
