Newcastle skateboarders muscle up | photos

AT 43 kilograms and five-foot-three, Jedd McKenzie is just another gangly teenager – until steps on to his skateboard. That’s when the Merewether skateboarder turns into a high flyer.

The 15-year-old is one of a growing contingent of local skaters making their mark on the national and international competitive skateboard scene.

He’s finished in the top two in his last three events, and with a home bowl advantage, he’s aiming for a podium finish at the Australian Bowl Riding Championships (ABC) event at Empire Park.

The event runs Saturday and Sunday, featuring some of the world’s best professionals, including Danish legend Rune Glifberg. The finals (women, juniors, masters, pro, open) on Sunday commence at  2pm, and will be streamed live on facebook/ABCSKATE.
