Newcastle man wanted for property offences arrested by police

A MAN wanted on warrants in Newcastle has been arrested.

The 26-year-old was wanted by virtue of an outstanding warrant for failing to appear at Newcastle Local Court relating to property offences.

About 5.20pm on Monday, October 17, the man was arrested after allegedly trying to steal a bicycle from a home on Wrightson Avenue, Bar Beach.

He also allegedly threatened the owner of the bicycle with a knife.

The man was allegedly found in possession of stolen mail, credit cards, a large amount of jewellery and a garage door opener; all suspected of being stolen.

The man was taken to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged with several property offences, including goods in custody, and his outstanding warrant was executed.

He was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Tuesday, October 18.
