Child run over in Perth driveway

A man is dead and a child remains critically ill after being run over by reversing cars in separate incidents in Western Australia.

The 51-year-old man was run over by his 47-year-old de facto wife as she reversed out of a driveway at Greenbushes, south of Perth, about 11.30pm WST on Wednesday.

Police spokesman Ian Hasleby said the pair had been arguing.

"He's stormed off, she's jumped into a car and reversed down the driveway and run him over.

"He, unfortunately, is deceased."

The woman is believed to be under sedation in nearby Bridgetown hospital, he said.

Meanwhile, a 12-month-old girl is in Perth's Princess Margaret Hospital with critical head injuries after being run over by a visiting relative in a Perth driveway.

Police spokeswoman Ros Weatherall said the child was struck by a Ford Falcon sedan being reversed out of a driveway at units in Nollamara by a 21-year-old visiting relative at about 9.30am WST on Thursday.

"Unknown to her, one of the children that lives in the house was behind the car," Ms Weatherall said.

"Unfortunately she has reversed over the child," Ms Weatherall said.

News reports say the child was run over by her aunt.
