After a few seasons in the rugby league wilderness former Knights back, NSW Country half and 2008 Newcastle RL player of the year Nathan Hinton has decided to return to the game.
The 31-year-old has joined Macquarie for the winter, linking up with coach Adam Bettridge again after last being together at South Newcastle in 2014.
“It’s been a nagging conversation for a few years now,” Bettridge said.
“I thought he was a bit young to finish but his work commitments haven’t probably allowed him to play too much. But he’s decided to give it another crack and hopefully he can find that form he was in when he finished playing.”
The former Souths and Wests pivot has already played a role for his new club during the last month since signing, helping the Scorpions into the final of the NSW Challenge Cup.
Hinton played seven matches for the Knights across 2006 and 2007.
Macquarie open their 2017 campaign with an away trip against Lakes at Cahill Oval on Sunday (April 23).
The Newcastle Rugby League season will be officially launched at McDonald Jones Stadium on Wednesday night.
