Rifles seized after police chase in Wallsend

A 37-YEAR-OLD man is likely to be charged after two rifles and ammunition were seized from a car on Friday morning.

Police said they attempted to pull over a Suziki Vitara about 2.30am after it was seen driving erratically in Wallsend.

The driver allegedly failed to stop.

A short chase ensued before the man attempted to run from the car on Warkworth Street in Maryland, police said.

He was arrested with his passenger.

Police said a search of the car revealed two rifles – one of them stolen from a West Wallsend address – and ammunition.

The man is likely to be charged with firearm and driving offences.

Police investigations continue.
