Hospital workers strike as union ramps up campaign against Hunter New England Health

JOHN Hunter Hospital workers will walk off the job on Thursday, as the Heath Services Union accuses authorities of a “failure to respond to concerns over workplace bullying”.

In a statement, the union said it had sent “numerous” letters about the alleged bullying to Hunter New England Health, but the health district had “ignored” them.

“HSU NSW has been running a campaign to tackle workplace bullying, and workers at the John Hunter Hospital are increasingly frustrated by the reluctance of hospital management to take this issue seriously,” the union said.

“The HSU also contends that a worker at John Hunter Hospital recently had their employment terminated unfairly.  This case is being heard before the NSW Industrial Relations Commission today.”

Hospital workers stopped work at 10.30am, and are not due to return until 1.30pm.
