Man approaches teenagers in Georgetown

POLICE are seeking help to identify a man who allegedly approached three teenagers in Georgetown.

Newcastle duty officer Inspector Michael Gorman said two girls, aged 14 and 16, and a boy aged 13 were riding their bicycles along Christo Road around 6.15pm on Saturday when they passed a man standing on the footpath.

He allegedly made a comment to the teenagers, which they ignored.

The teenagers rode their bicycles further down the road until one of the girls stopped to tie her shoelace.

“They noticed the man they had ridden past was running towards her and got within about five metres,” Inspector Gorman said. “She screamed and rode home, before they notified police.”

Inspector Gorman said the man was described as Caucasian, of thin build, 180cm tall, clean shaven and wearing a blue hoodie with the hood over his head and dark coloured pants.

He was last seen in the vicinity of Christo Road and Cowper Street.

Anyone with any information about the man or who saw the incident is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
