NEWCASTLE’S lord mayoral candidates will have a chance to state their case at Wests City from 6pm on Thursday night next week as part of a Newcastle Institute forum.
Members of the public have been urged to submit questions for four of those contesting the top job at the September 9 poll: incumbent Nuatali Nelmes (Labor); Liberal councillor David Compton, the Greens’ Therese Doyle and independent Kath Elliott.
Paul Scott from the University of Newcastle’s School of Creative Industries will moderate the panel, which organisers say has been modelled on the ABC’s Q&A program.
Dr Bernie Curran will be master of ceremonies.
The two-hour event will give each candidate a chance to make a policy speech before responding to questions.
Submitted questions will be weighed by a panel to ensure there is a good balance and the forum is fair to all contenders.
Questions can be submitted at the Institute’s website.
