Hunter Drama moves | Sydney Comedy Festival Showcase

HUNTER Drama is marking its 10th anniversary by moving all its operations into one building. The youth-oriented theatre company has used various venues in Hamilton for different functions since it was established, but is moving on September 25 to a large first-floor venue at 64-74 Brunker Road, Broadmeadow, which will have the name The Young Actors Development Centre. Artistic director Elise Martin said the venue will house Hunter Drama’s classes, workshops, rehearsals and offices, and some performances. The new headquarters will be officially opened on October 6 with the 2018 program announced at the function, and classes will begin there the following week.

THE 2017 Sydney Comedy Festival Showcase hits the Newcastle Civic Theatre stage at 8pm on September 8, with four performers who will provide two hours of laughter. Tom Rhodes is a US comedy veteran, with more than 30 years’ experience and sitcoms and late-night talk shows under his belt, plus a podcast, Tom Rhodes Radio, with more than 200 episodes; Luke Heggie was the Sydney Comedy Fest Director's Choice Award-winner and his no-nonsense comedy style has had him in demand throughout Australia; no-holds-barred Katie Burch shares her feelings on life and looks at issues including being a wife and mother; and Ciaran Lyons has performed sold-out comedy club shows since winning the 2013 Perth Comedy Festival Next Gen Comedian award. Tickets: $55, subscriber $45. Bookings: 4929 1977.
