I am always pleasantly surprised by how Novocastrians embrace the unusual. After participating in a sell-out week with Micro Theatre’s short play festival presented in four non-theatrical city venues (think cafes and galleries) I was lucky enough to join the Hamilton Long Lunch. This grassroots initiative, now in its second year, attracted 70 people.
Four backyards, one chef (the amazing Ben Armstrong from Hamilton’s Apothecary Kitchen), four courses and four wine regions - the event was a culinary and social extravaganza. A highlight on the plate was the buffalo mozzarella from Burruduc Buffalo, so fresh it was still grass the day before, according to farmer Elena Swegen.
Good to see so many enjoying the sun, local talent, wholesome cuisine, and the cultural experience to be found in both the micro and the macro of this great city. For advice on hosting a long lunch in your community, contact Neroli Foster from Underground Epicureans.
