RFS upgrades alert level for Richmond Vale fire near Kurri Kurri

FIREFIGHTERS have upgraded the 381-hectare fire burning in Richmond Vale.

The fire has been burning at Richmond Vale, between Mulbring and Kurri Kurri, since Tuesday.

Firefighters had back-burned overnight but strong winds and hot weather has forced the RFS to upgrade the severity of the blaze.

The blaze is currently burning in an easterly direction.

Firefighters and water-bombing aircraft are working to protect properties in the area.

According to the RFS, the fire has spread to 381 hectares.

It is believed to ignited from a car fire on Tuesday.

A total fire ban is in place for the Hunter for Wednesday.
