Living Smart Festival 8am to 2pm, Speers Point Park. A fun, family-friendly day to explore sustainable practices in everyday life. Includes a cooking demonstration by Paul West from River Cottage Australia, a free outdoor yoga class, a pop-up Raid My Wardrobe fashion event, a native plant giveaway and tiny house demonstrations. 

Mumbai Madness 6.30pm, Moonshadow Cruise, departs d’Albora Marina, Nelson Bay. Authentic Indian banquet and Bollywood fun.

Feast of Fashion – The Museum of Fashion 1pm, The Polish Club. A parade of Hollywood glamour and iconic and out of the ordinary styles. Afternoon tea will be served after the parade.

Hunter Valley Snooze 2017 Saturday and Sunday, Hunter Valley Zoo. Sleep under the stars and listen to the wild sounds of the night at the zoo. Cost $500 per tent. 

Word Bender Saturday, 6pm to 11pm, and Sunday, 2pm to 5pm, The Lock Up, Newcastle. Spoken word, poetry, unexpected encounters, music and text-based creative practice. Saturday night features performance artists, animators, projections, translations, hip-hop grooves and even a poetic boxing match. Sunday afternoon will have a more chilled vibe.

Mega Creatures Saturday and Sunday, Hunter Valley Gardens, Pokolbin. Giant animatronic Mega Bugs and Dinosaurs on display. Runs until October 8.

The Great Moscow Circus Extreme Saturday and Sunday, Maitland Showground. Acts include the Wheel of Death, cage riders, silks and trapeze, high wire and clowns.

2017 Tooheys Newcastle Rugby League Grand Final Day McDonald Jones Stadium, Broadmeadow. Gates open 10am, main game kick-off 3pm.
