Lake Macquarie: man faces court in Newcastle over several charges following jewellery theft


A man has been arrested and charged in relation to the theft of over $60,000 in jewellery in the Lake Macquarie region.

Police from Lake Macquarie Local Area Command have been investigating multiple stealing offences, in particular the theft of rings with a value of over $60,000 from a jewellers at Charlestown on Sunday, September 24.

Following extensive inquiries, about 2.50pm on Thursday, police attended an address on Mcelwee Drive, Tingira Heights, where they arrested a 25-year-old man, who was also allegedly in breach of an Apprehended Domestic Violence Order at the time.

He was taken to Belmont Police Station and charged with larceny greater than $15,000; two counts of intimidation; being armed with intent; stealing, being armed to avoid apprehension; and breach of an AVO.

He was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Friday.
