Auction Action: Another busy weekend predicted for auctioneers

A renovated three-bedroom townhouse in Merewether with an oversized yard and in close proximity to the beach sold $145,000 over its price guide at auction on November 4.

The property at 15/22 Patrick Street was marketed by McGrath Estate Agents’ Tammy Hawkins and went to auction with a price guide of $850,000. Bidding opened at $820,000 and it was finally secured for $995,000.

Also in Merewether, a four-bedroom residence enjoying position on a 1321.6 square metre corner block at 114 Janet Street which had been in the same family since 1945 was sold for an undisclosed sum believed to be above the price guide of $2.6 million.

Mr Flook also marketed a tired-looking two-bedroom terrace at 9 Brien Street, The Junction, which sold at auction for $520,000.

A three-bedroom home at 14 Mary Street, Merewether marketed by First National’s George Rafty, sold under the hammer for $930,000.

An older style two-bedroom home at 302 Lake Road, Glendale marketed through Century 21’s Alexandra Diktakis sold for $318,000 after an opening bid of $240,000.  

A two-bedroom cottage on a 1435 square metre waterfront block at 53 Ilford Street, Buttaba sold for $995,000 through Avery Property Professionals.

On PRDnationwide Newcastle Lake Macquarie’s auction night Wednesday night, historic 18 High Street, Waratah sold for $908,500 and 100 Crebert Street, Mayfield sold for $781,000.


Plenty more auction action is expected today.

It will be started by 1 Curry Street, Merewether, which will be taken to auction by LJ Hooker’s Cameron Stevenson on site at 10am. The home is in a bluechip location and sold for $2.25 million 12 months ago. 

At 10.30am in another sought-after location, 175 Parkway Ave, Hamilton South will go under the hammer on site. The four-bedroom, one-level home on 791 square metres is being marketed by Dalton Partners’ Andrew McGavin with a guide of $1.69 million.

Dalton Partners also have 7 Melville Road, Broadmeadow being auctioned on site at 2.30pm with a guide of $580,000.

Damon Sellis, of Street Property Group, will take a terrace at 172 Darby Street, Cooks Hill to auction on site at 2.15pm with a  guide of $750,000 to $820,000. 

First National Newcastle City has 39 Platt Street, Waratah (11.15am), an apartment on Shortland Esplanade, Newcastle (12.45pm) with a price guide of $1 million to $1.1 million, 15 Hebburn Street, Hamilton East (1.30pm) with a guide of $1.1 million to $1.2 million and 42 Buchanan Street, Merewether (3.45pm) with a guide of $1.75 million to $1.85 million all going to auction on site.
